Suspension ties, Part III: Inverted-Y for main line tie-offs

The inverted-Y is the most standard tie-off for connecting to box-ties (aka gote, gote shibari and takate-kote), especially those from the Kanna lineage, e.g. Kinoko and Osada 2 & 3 rope variants. It is also useful for a variety of other connections to major load bearing harnesses, such as hip harnesses. This version is recommended over 'burn the bight' methods due to the extra security it offers by not relying on the single strand of the bight. Not only does stressing the bight cause additional wear but it also can strip fibres off the rope as you lift on it. Tests have shown this effect when lifting on the bight is a significant factor in rope breakages.

This guide also demonstrates a number of ways of securing the rope, ergonomic ways of doing so and handling techniques to improve flow and reduce jams. You will also learn a clever friction that adds control and facilitates tying off under load.
